BRIDGEWATER: Country Fair Returns After 2-Year Hiatus

BRIDGEWATER (LITCHFEILD COUNTY) CT:  A motorcycle show, racing pig contests, and Fireman’s Parade are just some of the attractions at this year’s country fair.

After a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19, the fair, sponsored by the Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department, will be returning for its 69th year from Aug. 19 to Aug. 21.

The fair weekend will kick off with the annual Bridgewater Fireman’s Parade on Aug. 19, with opening ceremonies and the parade, scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Featuring around 50 fire companies from across the state, this year’s parade will be led by a monster truck.

Additionally, the fair will feature a variety of new vendors, performances and other entertainment.

The Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department will sponsor a raffle to benefit the fire department.

Bridgewater Country Fair Chairman and Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department President Eric Gsell said all of the fair food will be ordered, bought, cooked and sold by the Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department’s emergency medical technicians and volunteers.

Bridgewater Country Fair Chairman and Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department President Eric Gsell said the department relies on the fair for 90 percent of its operating budget.

For the past two years, however, the fairs were canceled — due to the pandemic.
